Hundreds of hours of video is uploaded to YouTube every minute. As video is highly engaging YouTube is a perfect place to promote your products and services.

Now there is a science to being successful with marketing on YouTube and I am going to give you a valuable 5 step formula. By the end of it you will know how to promote your video on YouTube to attract customers to your business.

How To Promote Your Video On YouTube – The 5 Step Process

Step 1 Choose Your Bid Type

YouTube offers you a powerful way to showcase your video content and get it in front of millions of people.

When you start your campaign you need to create a budget. Once you do this YouTube will provide you with a “maximum cost per view” option. Here you get to determine how much you want to pay to let people watch your video. You can select either single bids or custom bids.

For beginners it is suggested that you start with “in-display ads” with a cost of $0.10 – 0.40 per view. Then select %0.05 – 0.20 for “in stream ads”. Then when you have enough data to work with regarding clicks and views you can then change the setting to optimize your campaign.

Step 2 – Choose Your Audience

YouTube really helps you find your ideal customer through it’s targeting facility within it’s platform. There are five options that you can choose.

  1. The Demographic – You get to choose your audience based on age, gender, location, income, interests e.t.c.
  2. The Topic Of Your Video – There are hundreds of topics that you can choose from. obviously you will want to choose a topic that is relevant to the content that you produce. Once you do then your video will appear in the appropriate category.
  3. Affinity Categories – Your video could be shown in any category which is related to the browsing history of your viewer, and matched to the interest category that you initially chose.
  4. Placements – YouTube let’s you target any individual by adding the URL as a placement target. This can be a particular website, mobile application, individual page, blog or video.
  5. Targeted Keywords – This is the same principle as you you would use in the Google Keyword Planner. Your video will be shown depending on the keywords, tags, lines and phrases.

Step 3 – Target People Who Are Entering Specific Keywords

This is the organic search in the YouTube search bar at the top of the page. Here you can target keywords that people are entering when they search for videos. If you get your search engine optimization correct then people will naturally find you.

Step 4 – Creating Your Advertisement

First you need to select the video from your YouTube library. Then choose the targeted audience with the preferred ad format. Here you have two options.

  1. In Stream Videos – These videos usually start right before the video that the viewer has chosen to watch. After 5 seconds the viewer can then click away and skip the video. This means that you have just 5 seconds to capture the viewers attention to make them want to carry on watching your video.
  2. In Display Ads – These are the video ads that appear both at the top of the search listing on YouTube, and along the right hand side. The important thing here is to have an eye catching video thumbnail to get the viewer to click on your ad.

Step 5 – The Ad Attributes

At this final stage you need to select the attributes to your advertisement. These include the text of the advertisement, this is for “In Display Ads“.

Also you need to choose the destination URL. This is where you want the viewer to click to see your offer. Also you need to choose the image thumbnail and name your ad.
