The chances are that you have landed on this webpage because you are considering quitting your job to start a business. In this article I am going to share some things that you need to consider before making that decision.

There may be many reasons that have made you think about quitting your job to start a business. You may be totally fed up with the painful 9 – 5 routine, the arduous commute to work, the feeling of being unfulfilled, you may feel that you are worth more than you are currently being paid or it may be that you have always wanted to be your own boss and build a business around your true passion in life.

Now while I would really encourage you to start your own business, I feel that I should point out to you some questions that you need to ask yourself before making that life changing decision.

One of the main mistakes that entrepreneurs make is to quit their day job before their home business has gained some traction.

So do you have the answers to the following questions?

Quitting Your Job To Start A Business – Questions To Ask Yourself

Have I Learnt Everything I Can From My Current Job?

Every job has particular skills that are unique to that job, but there are many skill sets that can applied to any job or industry. What I mean are things like time management, man management, organization, leadership qualities or being part of a team that has to work together everyday.

All of these skill sets are vital to running your own home business. You will have stressful times, problems will occur, your business will not always live up to being the glamorous lifestyle that you envisaged. This is where these fundamental skills will be needed, so are you proficient in them?

Will I Be Burning My Bridges?

Leaving your job has a dramatic effect on you and your current employers, so you must be professional in the way that you leave.

You want to leave on good terms, after all there may be situations that arise where you will come into contact with them again. Talk to your boss about the plans you have for your business, be respectful with the amount of notice that you give them so it gives them plenty of time to find your replacement.

Make sure you give 100% until the moment that you walk out of the door, this will leave a really good lasting impression of you to your employers. By doing this could leave the door open for you to return in the future, if by any chance your business did not work out. That is not meant to sound negative but nothing in life is guaranteed.

Am I 100% Clear On What I Want?

It is vitally important to be sure on what you want. Having a business is not always a bed of roses, so if your decision is to get away from the frustrations you have in your current job then think again because you will have a lot of the same frustrations in your business. There is a saying “that the grass is greener on the other side”, sometimes that is true, sometimes it is not.

It could be that this is the perfect time in your life to follow your passion and achieve your dream of being a business owner. Maybe you just want a totally new direction to follow.

There are many reasons that you want to quit, so sit down and evaluate them before making the decision.

Have I Got A Financial Safety Net?

The obvious impact that you will face is not receiving your salary at the end of the month. This is what scares people with the transition from employee to business owner. So have you got that financial safety net of savings in the bank to keep you going until you start to see some positive results from your business.

If you have then how long are they going to last you? Whether that is one month, six month’s or twelve months it immediately puts pressure on you to deliver.

This could be the deal breaker on whether you continue with your current job until your business gets going.

Is There A Market For My Business?

This is where you have to do your research. Too many times people jump in with both feet because they have a great idea for a business. The trouble is the idea may be great to you, but if nobody is looking for your products and services, then you are dead in the water before you start.

Make sure there is a hungry market for your home business products and services and understand the principle that you must be market orientated and provide value into that market first and foremost.

Quitting Your Job To Start Your Business – Start Your Business Alongside Your Current Job To Take All The Risk Away

The things that I have shared with you are what you need to consider before you go it alone. Now I want you to think about things from a different angle. What if there was a way that you could start your business alongside your current employment?

Something that you could easily do in your spare time which would not have a dramatic impact on your life and security.

A business model where all the market research has been done for you, is high quality, and in demand products and services are available for you to offer to the home business marketplace. Ready made systems that you can leverage and training is provided on how to attract the highest quality people to your business. The opportunity to build a real and sustainable business that gives you the chance to get to that safety level before quitting your job.
