The Power of Reminders and Home Business Accountability Software
An article from guest blog writer, Matt Press, Splash Copywriters, looking at the importance of home business accountability software and the importance of routine and rituals when you’re running your own home-based business.
I recently blogged about the importance of routine and rituals when you’re running your own home-based business. Today I’ve got a couple of tips that you can execute straight away that will increase your efficiency and ensure that you are working in an efficient manner.
Use a calendar.
There are plenty of digital calendars out there, but I’d advise utilising the one that comes via your email service provider.
For instance, the Outlook calendar has a really easy interface. We’re talking about nice wide sections that are easy to add, edit or delete.
I find it useful to plan your work out in advance, putting in entries that will pop up and ensure you’re doing what you need to be doing.
The trick is to find the balance between planning too far ahead and just living day by day. There’s no point in filling up your diary for the rest of the year because things change. Your business will change. Your life situation might change too.
It’s just not going to work out. I’d advise working in quarters. Fill up your diary right now until the end of the next quarter. What jobs need doing and when?
Be reminded of your goals.
Whether we’re talking about high-level goals or intermediate ones, it’s good to stay focused on what you’re aiming for. Perhaps it’s a certain number of email subscribers? Maybe it’s a record-breaking number of blog posts? Or what about something a little more juicy, like a revenue target?
There’s a great website called IFTTT. It stands for ‘If this, then that’. There’s actually a whole bunch of things you can do on the site, but I use the productivity tool.
I’ve set the website up so that I receive a text at 9am on my phone every day with a particular message, reminding me what I’m working towards at this particular point in time.
It’s always good to get a visual prompt. Looking at the text takes 2 seconds, yet it realigns what I’m doing with startling success.
