Maybe the sole intention of creating content is to generate leads for your business. In this case your content would be geared at providing a solution to problems that people are suffering from and you can offer them some free resources in exchange for their personal details, such as name and email address. Then you can concentrate on forming a relationship with your subscribers and gently nurture them into paying customers.

Once you form clear content marketing objectives then it will be much easier to create content around that objective.

Your game plan will be a document that you create which outlines the content marketing objectives that you want to achieve and a plan of action of how to achieve them. Here is what to include in your game plan document.

  • Prioritize Your Goals – Here you need to look at your top three goals that you have set yourself and more importantly what needs to be done to achieve them.
  • Who Is Your Target Audience – You must create an avatar of your ideal customer. Who are they, where do they hang out and what are their needs?
  • Your Competition – Not only do you have to look at your local competition, you also need to look at national and worldwide competition if you have an online business. What content are they producing and what products and services are they offering. Then differentiate yourself from them so you stand out as the market leader.
  • The Language You Use – What is going to be the tone that you use in creating your content. Sometimes you may need to be very professional and sometimes it maybe that a less formal and lighthearted approach is needed to get your message across.
  • The Format of Your Content – Are you going to use words, video or audio to project the presence of your business. Individuals have different preferences when it comes to consuming content so you need to mix it up so it appeals to everyone.
  • Creating A Schedule – When are you going to publish content and on what platforms. Creating a schedule is very important as it gives you structure to create the content and also your audience will then know when to expect your latest content.
  • Analyse Your Data – You need to know which pieces of your content are producing the best results. So for example if your objective is lead generation you need to work out if blog posts are doing better than the videos that you may upload to YouTube.
