LinkedIn publishing: is it worth its salt?
An article from Matt Press, Splash Copywriters, about LinkedIn publishing. is it worth your time and effort?
So, those of us not regarded as ‘influencers’ are finally allowed to publish on LinkedIn – quite the patronizing upgrade, isn’t it?
What can we achieve by regularly using this opportunity.
Is it really worth your time and effort?
Like with most things, there are pros and cons. Here are 3 of each… the plus and minuses.
+ 1 If your post gets a lot of ‘likes’ or ‘shares’, using this tool will expand your network. + 2 Also, LinkedIn could pick up on popular posts and share them with an even wider audience. + 3 LinkedIn content is indexed by Google, so publishing is great for SEO.
You’ve probably quite a really varied network of colleagues and friends, so it’s going to be hard to create content that appeals to all of them. Normally that wouldn’t matter, but it’s less appropriate to bug people with irrelevant thoughts and opinions on LinkedIn than it is to do it on Facebook or Twitter.
Google often penalize duplicated content, so if you have a business page and are posting up content there as well, you’re doubling your workload by creating content to publish under your individual profile too.
Also, you could argue that there’s a conflict of interests between your company page and your individual profile when it comes to building a brand. Be clear in your strategy and your goals.
All your contacts automatically receive a notification when you publish a post, meaning that you don’t have to worry about advertising your content. Or them missing it.
However, because of these notifications, you risk annoying your network if you publish pieces too often. But, publish too little and you risk diluting any long-term gains from using the tool. It’s a fine line.
LinkedIn publishing for the masses is still in its infancy, so the best plan is probably to try it out and see what comes of it. He who dares, Rodders…
I wish you every success in your LinkedIn publishing and in your home business.
