Mark Ford

Hello, Mark Ford here. Today I want to help you create a real plan of action so that you can maximise the potential that you have and create a lifestyle of freedom and choice for you and your nearest and dearest.

The road is long with many a winding turn are the opening lyrics to a fantastic song of the 1960’s called He’s My Brother by the Hollies which if you haven’t heard it before then check it out on YouTube. These lyrics could be the opening statement to the plan that you are going to create to plot your own road to success.

There are many elements that you need to put into place so that you can achieve the ultimate success within your life, whether that is for personal or business interests.

Now I must warn you that success doesn’t come easy and why should it? If something is worth having, then you should be prepared to put the work in and not just rely on hope and giving it a go. The world owes you nothing!

Total commitment from the start is needed, you must give 100% at all times and there is no room for having the attitude of let’s try it because you know what is going to happen.

As soon as the road to success starts to get bumpy you are going to use your get out of jail card and say it “didn’t work out” because that is the mindset you have had from the outset. You are saying to yourself “I told you so”. Well done you have succeeded in failing! – Rather, what did you learn from that?

road to success

Road To Success

You must have the mindset that you must have success, nothing else will do and you will walk through brick walls to get it. You will then be setting yourself up the best way you can. Saying this though you must realise that it’s not enough, success is still not guaranteed because you must learn specific skills sets that will equip you with what you need.

I am now going to share with you the key ingredients for a smooth journey along your road to success which will instil into you the must have attitude instead of just wanting things and wishing they would happen. My only pre-requisite is that you are committed to changing your life, if you are not then you may as well click away from this page because you are not going to get any value from it. Will you read on?

Great you are still with me which fills me with hope that however long your road to success is, and not everybody’s is the same, you will arrive at your final destination.

Road to Success – Your Why And Purpose

finding your why

Finding Your Why

You can’t take the first step without knowing why you are starting this journey. This is something that you will have to sit down and think very hard about so that you come up with your mission in life.

Your road to success should only have one direction and that obviously is forward but if you don’t know the direction you want your life to go then you run the peril of engaging in reverse gear and fall into the trap of 1 step forward and 2 steps back.

This is wasted time which you will never get back. You must know what you want in life and the person you want to become. When you discover that then this is the direction that you must follow.

There is a simple process that you can go through to find your mission and purpose and it involves asking yourself 3 questions.

  1. What are you good at?
  2. What do enjoy doing?
  3. How can you use these to help society?

Road To Success – Start To Take Action

Your first step is to start forming good habits that will help you achieve your goals. So take some time to think of the things that are most important and useful for you to undertake daily. Habits take time and you should be looking at around 30 – 60 days for it to become second nature for you to perform these tasks.

At first you will be motivated to create them then after about 10 days you may experience that it starts to become a little bit harder and then you will look for excuses not to do it. Here is where you will need some discipline to not give up, so you must plough on.

When you get to the 20-day period things will start to get easier, the habit is starting to form, and the sweet spot is when you get to the 30-day period where things start to become effortless, you will not have to consciously think about doing things and it will be second nature.

So now the habits have been formed but you must realise that it will take longer to see the results you want so don’t get despondent because they will come. Give yourself at least 100 days, roughly 3 months and then you will become more confident, start getting traction and gain momentum.

Road to Success – Be Positive

positive attitudeYou must erase all negativity from your life and this starts with you.

Your mindset must be positive and here is why.

If you think negatively then you will not see the opportunities when they present themselves because it won’t hit home, but if you are a positive thinker then your mind is a lot clearer and you can recognise the opportunity right in front of your eyes.

So how can you get into a positive mindset. The first is to stop reading the newspapers or watching the news on television. Let’s face it there is not a lot of good news in the world when it comes to the media and positivety is not at the top of their agendas. It’s usually half way through the paper or just a brief mention in their broadcast.

Also when it comes to music don’t listen to stuff that is depressing with sad lyrics because more than often it will make you cry and set of bad memories that you can’t shake out of your head.

Another thing to do is not listen to negative advice, negativity breeds negativity and you will come across people whose mission in life is to be miserable and take down everybody who is around them. We all have a circle of influence, people who we mix with all the time so look at your inner circle and weed out the doom and gloom merchants and disassociate yourself from them. This is going to be one of the hardest things that you must do but for you to reach the final destination on your road to success you must do it!

In many ways you must become ruthless for the sake of your own future and destiny and if you look at some of the most successful people in history this is what they have done.

When you have weeded out these people you must then seek out positive people to replace them. Positivity leads to positivity by mixing with like minded people who all have the same direction in life. You can brainstorm with them and even collaborate with them to help each other to reach goals.

Road To Success – Don’t Quit

don't quitOnly losers quit when times get tough and they will for sure. You must develop a never say die attitude, keep looking at your final destination and develop the belief that you can arrive there.

Be determined, persistent and continue to take the action steps that are needed. Look at the likes of the late Steve Jobs who started Apple with his friend in his garage or Jeff Bezos of Amazon fame who started in his spare bedroom. If they had quit, then you wouldn’t be able to use your MacBook Pro to log onto Amazon and do all your shopping! Hopefully you get my point.

Road to Success – Love Your Work

Everything becomes so much easier if your love your work. Don’t spend the 40 odd years of your life doing something you hate which millions of people all around the world do sadly. If you love your work you will wake up in the morning inspired to do some good for the world through the actions that you take.

That is something I want to highlight. When you take action, it leads to inspiration. You may do something which then gives you another idea, the light bulb moment which could be your next big project, something that could even change the world. That may be a bold statement, but you never know!

Road to Success – Be Healthy And Develop

You must be healthy in both your mind and body and the only way to do that is to make the right decisions. Eat healthy and exercise regularly, it is not rocket science, put good ingredients into your mouth and burn it off through an exercise regime that you stick to.

Energy levels will increase which leads to more productivity in the actions you take, which results in success.

Always look to improve your physical and mental skill sets. Look at personal development, the areas where you can improve then seek the professional help you need which will expand your inner circle of positive people.

These are the steps you need to take to create and follow your own road to success. It won’t be easy but is anything in life worth it if it is? Let me know your comments below on anything that I have shared with you and be sure to share with me your success stories when they happen. Just follow these steps.

I wish you every success in running your home business from anywhere in the world on the road to success!

Don’t Quit

Don’t Quit – Will You Turn Back On Your Goals and Your Dreams and Stay Unfulfilled?

mark ford

Mark Ford

If there were just 2 rules in life they would have to be… number 1… don’t quit… number 2… remember rule 1.

When I look back on the numerous challenges since 2007, and what I have battled and been through, to establish myself with a secondary base in Cyprus, it really brings home the importance of not quitting on your journey to your goal, to the outcome and lifestyle you seek.

It’s tough starting out and the bit in the middle requires true grit and determination. However, when you reach your goal, your destiny, it all settles down and it is time to reward yourself for staying the course.

Back on the 3rd June 2018 I threw a house warming party. This is perhaps better called an apartment warming party and I would like to thank each and everyone of you that attended and helped me to make the day so special. Memorable!

Personal Development Goals

Personal Development Goals – Goal Setting Is Vital For Personal Development So Here Are Some Of The Most Important Areas Of Your Life That You Should Be Concentrating On So That You Can Become The Best Version Of Yourself

In this article experienced home business lifestyle coach Mark Ford looks at the personal development goals that you should be concentrating on so that you can create the most fulfilling life possible.

mark ford

Mark Ford

Let’s continue today looking at personal development and more specifically personal development goals.

Many people overlook this as they go through their lives’, but it is crucial to everybody so that they can live a happier and abundant lifestyle. Goal setting gives you a clear direction on where you want your life to be heading but many people get hung up on setting goals but not understanding how they are going to achieve them.

Also people think that the point of goal setting is just for material things such as they want to buy the car of their dreams by a certain date. Or they want to pay off their mortgage within 10 years.

Maybe they want to start a business and set a goal of earning $5000 per month.

Another favourite one is health where people want to lose weight and set themselves a target of losing so many pounds in 6 months or they want to stop smoking and then eat healthier. Now I am not saying that people shouldn’t do this, far from it, but they need to have the foundations in place so that they have any chance of achieving the goals they have set for themselves.

Everything starts in the mind and then transitions itself through the body to change attitudes and take action. You need to have the correct mindset to achieve anything in life and that is what I want to talk about today. Over the next few minutes as you read this article I will share several mindset issues that you have to get right in the first place and when you do then you will find the art of setting personal development goals will become effortless and then you will see positive results within your personal and professional life.

There will be things that I share with you that may have never crossed your mind as being important to your personal development and you may have some lightbulb moments and realise that there are certain things that have been holding you back in your development.

The good thing is that it is never too late to change things and you can easily implement things into your life to give you the best chance of creating the life and lifestyle that you desire.

So lets look at a series of mindset skill sets that you can practice to give you the best chance of living your ideal life!

Personal Development Goals – How To Create The Right Mindset

personal development goals

Personal Development Goals

Gaining Self Confidence – One of your personal development goals should be to develop self-esteem and self-confidence but how do you do this? Confidence stems from success and success stems from learning how to do this correctly and proficiently. This can be applied to anything in life but you need to take action.

Confidence is a powerful thing and when you are confident in life then you can achieve great things. Confidence should not be compared to arrogance and cockiness though as this rubs people up the wrong way and people like this usually have some underlying misgiving that they are trying to hide.

Your Body Language – There is a saying that “first impressions last” and the first impression that someone will have of you is the body language that you portray. So you need to come over very positive without being seen as pushy or smothering. Always look people in the eye when you are talking to them and never hunch your shoulders as this can give a negative impression to the person you are trying to connect with. This is especially relevant when you looking to secure a new job within an interview process.

Develop Relationships – A relationship is a two-way street, there must be give and take for the relationship to blossom. So as part of your personal development you need to learn how to get along with people. Always be prepared to listen to people and take onboard their opinions even if you don’t agree with them and give your opinion in a way that you are not forcing it down their throat.

Eventually people will respect you, and you them, and this will lead to a lasting and fulfilling relationship with people personally and professionally.

Stop Procrastinating – The definition of procrastination is that someone keeps delaying something that must be done, often because it is unpleasant or boring. So this is something that you need to overcome to enhance your personal development.

You must be clear, concise and take action on what must be done. If you continue to procrastinate then nothing will become real and all you will have is dreams.

sun risingGet Up Early – You will have plenty of time to sleep when you are dead and that is not meant to sound flippant. There is a saying that the “early bird catches the worm” so I advise you to get up early to maybe see the sunrise or do your daily exercise routine. This sets the body up perfectly for the day ahead and you will have high motivation levels to get stuff done.

So don’t wallow about in your bed until mid-morning because you are wasting a lot of your time instead of creating a beautiful life!

Be More Proactive – You should always be proactive rather than being re-active. If you are proactive then you are acting to avoid mishaps that may raise their ugly heads. What usually happens when you are re-active is that you panic in the event of a situation and this leads to stress.

Being proactive lets you control your fate and take responsibility for the results that you achieve.

Forget The Past – The past is the past and unless you have a time machine that can go backwards it can never be changed. We all have things in our past that have been unpleasant, whether that is being bullied at school or having bad relationships within the family or intimate partners.

Maybe business ventures have not gone the way you wanted and it has resulted in you losing money. Whatever it is you must let go of it. In doing so you will give yourself every chance of moving forward.

Become Resilient – You will have to develop the skin of a rhino to overcome many forms of adversity that you will face. You will have to develop a brave and confident mindset because if you are weak and helpless then you will continue to struggle, and things will get on top of you, there is no doubt.

Examples of Personal Development Goals Video

believe in yourselfDevelop Belief – If you have limited belief in something that you are about to embark on then you are onto a non-starter. You are basically telling yourself that this is not going to work, maybe it is your get out of jail card so that you can justify things further down the line. You will never escape from your comfort zone which is basically fear of what could happen.

To meet any of your goals then you must believe in them 100% from the get go or don’t even bother.

Be In The Moment – The time is now and not what has happened in the past or what could happen in the future. You must be aware of where you are now and your surroundings. There is a term called mind wandering which means that you often look back or think of the future which makes you unhappy.

Look around you and embrace the abundance you have in your life. It could be as simple as mother nature, the sun shining and the birds singing, or it could be your family which is the most precious thing in your life and be grateful that they are happy and healthy.

Often it is the simple things that make us happy so be aware of what you have got and think that there is always someone worse off than you.

Make Better Decisions – The decisions you make will have a huge impact on the quality of the life you will have and the outcomes that you get. So you need to get good on making decisions but also remember that no one is perfect, and you will make mistakes. When this happens make sure you learn from it so you don’t do it again.

Develop A Positive Attitude – When you have a positive attitude then you will have a great outlook on life and it will help you respond and react to any situation that you find yourself in for the better. A negative attitude results in negative things happening to you so always look on the bright side of life as Monty Python said, be positive and get ready to take the bull by the horns and always do you best.

So as you can see there is a lot more to personal development goals than you may have thought. Your success depends on what happens in your head, it is the foundation to everything you do or will have in your life so make sure you develop the right mindsets and I am sure that whatever goals you set yourself you will achieve and reach your full and true potential.

Importance Of Personal Development

Importance Of Personal Development – A Lifelong Journey Developing Skills And Setting Goals To Reach Your Full Potential

mark ford

Mark Ford

In this article home business lifestyle coach Mark Ford shares the importance of personal development and encourages personal empowerment so that you can plan positive and effective life choices.

Over the last couple of weeks, I have been sharing a lot of information with you regarding personal development and self growth. Today I want to highlight the importance of personal development and we will be looking at a very specific subject of personal needs and exploring a very prominent process that leads to self-actualisation.

Then I will go through with you how to effectively mange your personal development through some simple steps that complement each other.

importance of personal development

Importance Of Personal Development

Importance of Personal Development – What Is Personal Development?

If you haven’t had the chance to read my other articles on personal development I think I should briefly go over what in fact personal development is and covers. As mentioned in the title of this article personal development starts when you are brought into the world and ends when your time is up, and you depart. In other words, it is a lifelong process of learning and experiencing things both good and bad.

Over the period of your life you will have the opportunity to asses the skills sets you have along with your own personal qualities. Also you will have dreams, aspirations which you can set goals to aim for to help you realise your full potential and ultimate fulfilment.

Over the next few minutes you will learn some incredibly valuable lessons on how to pinpoint and identify individual skill sets that you will need to help you set those life goals to help you in several aspects throughout your life. These will include what happens within your personal life along with your chosen career path to raise your employability chances, to increase your confidence and help you lead of life of abundance.

Many people think that personal development is more prevalent in our younger years as we go through childhood, adolescence and through transition into becoming an adult. The answer to that is yes and no and here is why.

Yes we develop the basic life skills as we grow up but there is a saying that you learn something new everyday and this is very true but personal development stays with you for well into your later life. So if you are open minded are you ready to think about your personal development to reach your goals and maximise your full potential?

Earlier I mentioned about a well know theory or process which looks at specific needs that a person has within their life that eventually leads that person to self-actualisation. This process is called Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, so let’s dive into this first.

Importance Of Personal Development – Maslow’s Hierarchy Of Needs

abraham maslow

Abraham Maslow

In 1943 Abraham Maslow wrote a paper called “A Theory of Human Motivation” and contained within in it is a psychology theory called Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.

This theory describes the stages of growth within human beings depicting their needs. Now there are 5 levels to this theory and it starts off with physiological then moves onto safety, belonging and love, esteem and self-actualisation.

So let’s look at each level. As you will see by the image below you will see that the hierarchy is in the shape of a pyramid. The base of the pyramid is the widest as this represents the fundamental needs of every human being. As with any pyramid it tapers up to a point and this is where self-actualisation happens.

From the bottom up the first 4 levels represent the needs of a person and for a person not to feel anxious and tense then these 4 levels of need to be met. His theory is that once the base level needs have been met then the individual will have greater focus and motivation to progress through all the other levels of the Pyramid. He came up with the phrase “metamotivation” which he uses to describe the persons motivation to scale the pyramid and beyond to better themselves.

maslows hierarchy of needs

Maslows Hierarchy Of Needs

Each level is controlled by the human mind which means that different levels can be reached at the same time and can happen at anytime within someone’s life. Physiological Needs – These are the basic physical needs that human beings need to survive and is regarded as the most important level and these needs must be met first. The human body can’t physically function if these requirements are not met and will lead to the body eventually failing. They are as follows –

  • Breathing
  • Water
  • Food
  • Sleep
  • Clothing
  • Shelter
  • Sex
  • Excretion
  • Homeostatis

Safety Needs – This level is for the safety and security needs of a person and will cover both physical and economic safety. Physical safety can affect people in several ways such as the threat of war, family abuse or even mother nature rearing her head. Economic safety relates to the world economy in times of recession, not having the security of a job with a paycheque coming in each month. So in summary this level covers the following –

  • Security of the body
  • Security of employment
  • Security of family
  • Security of health
  • Security of property
  • Security of morality

love and belongingLove/Belonging Needs – Everyone wants to have the feeling of being loved and belonging and can be prevalent in children. If people have experienced neglect, hospitalisation and being unloved then this can have serious implications on the individual’s ability to form meaning, long, lasting and emotional relationships in general.

Love – Belonging Needs

  • Feeling part of a group or community
  • Being part of a family or having their own
  • Sexual intimacy
  • Being social both in general and in the workplace
  • Feeling affection and love
  • Giving and receiving trust
  • Being accepted

Esteem Needs – Human beings need to have recognition and respect from other people. Along with that they like to feel important and have status. All these elements lead a person to have self-esteem, of value and a feeling that they are contributing to the world.

  • Gaining self esteem
  • Self respect
  • Feeling confident and competent
  • Gaining respect from others, family and work colleagues

According to Maslow there are two levels of esteem. They are a lower version and a higher version. The lower version relates to the need of feeling respected by others and to have that status and attract attention. The higher version relates to the individual having respect for themselves and they have the need for freedom, independence and self-confidence. Saying all this though, both levels are very closely related.

Self-Actualisation Needs – This level refers to what a person’s full potential is and that person’s realization of it. The individual has the desire to accomplish everything he or she can and become completely whole. This will vary widely from one person to another as everyone is unique and has their own needs to fulfil.

  • Having the ability to solve problems
  • Having great morality
  • Being creative
  • Having a lack of prejudice
  • Having acceptance of the facts
  • Reaching full potential

Importance Of Personal Development – So How Do you Go From The Bottom Of Maslow’s Hierarchy Of Needs To the Top

Well I have written a lot of articles over the last couple of weeks with lots of information related to personal development and growth, so I highly encourage you to check them out when you have time. What I will do is give you a condensed blueprint to help you understand the theory of Maslow and to help you with your personal development. Create Your Vision – Outline where you want your life to be over the next 6 months, 12 months, 5 years or 10 years. Write it all down so you can refer to it or create a vision board that you can hang within your home.

plan your personal development

Plan Your Personal Development

Plan Your Personal DevelopmentI wrote a detailed article on this subject just a few days ago so it will give you a clear direction on how to plan your personal development and you can read it by clicking here.

Start Learning – There are numerous resources that you can leverage like books, audio and video to consume. This will help you with what you need to develop within yourself.

Personal Achievements

Personal Achievements – How To Recognise What You Have Achieved In Your Life & Plan For The Future

mark ford

Mark Ford

In this article Mark Ford, who is a home business lifestyle coach,  looks at how to embrace and recognise the personal achievements that you have made in your life along with addressing how some things could have gone better, and how to plan to make sure you reach any goals that you have set yourself both personally & professionally.

When it comes to personal achievements we are sometimes guilty at not recognising just what we have done in our lives and let others congratulate us before we eventually give ourselves a pat on the back. Why is this?

Maybe we don’t want to come across arrogant, big headed, self-centered or maybe we just don’t see them. A lack of self-esteem may be part of it, but it is very important that you embrace what you have achieved within your life up to now and plan for further achievements well into the future.

One Shoe Does Not Fit All

Now when it comes to personal achievements there is not a one shoe fits all. Your personal achievements will probably be totally different to the members in your family or your best friends but there are some categories that we all achieve in.

It maybe that we are successful within a charitable organization along with millions of people all around the world. It may be that you excelled at school, college and university and got that degree that you always wanted. Sport is something that most people achieve in, it could be that you won your local league in your favourite pastime or you won an individual competition.

Many people achieve in business by starting at the bottom and working their way up the ladder by gaining promotions along the way, or starting their own business from scratch, nurturing that idea and developing it into something that provides a full-time income for themselves and for people that they then go on to employ.

personal achievements

Personal Achievements

Financially it could be that you have achieved your financial freedom point and are free from all your debts like mortgages, credit cards and you finally have more money coming in than you need so that you can put some away for yours and the families’ future.

Then we can look at health. In the past you may have let things slip and become relatively unhealthy due to what you were putting into your body and not exercising enough to burn it off therefore putting on a lot of weight. There may have been a point when you realised what you had been doing and decided to do something about it and get fit again.

Or it could be that you quit smoking which is a very hard habit to break. It takes willpower, dedication and determination not to let the temptation get the better of you and put that cigarette between your lips again.

One of the biggest personal achievements anyone can make is to bring another life into this world and then love, care and nurture that tiny human being into a fine upstanding member of society who then goes onto bring value to the world. This maybe your ultimate legacy.

Personal Achievements – Look At What You Have Achieved?

So take some time out and really look at your life up to now. What has filled you with pride and given you an immense sense of satisfaction. At this time it is important to look at things that maybe could have gone better in the past. Now this is not meant to sound negative and put a dampener on things, far from it, but there maybe things that at one point were just a little bit out of reach but could still come into play with a little bit of help.

Was there something lacking? It could have been motivation which you may now have, or it could have been that you just didn’t know how to do something. This could be easily rectified by gaining the education and training to succeed by investing in yourself.

Mindset also comes into personal achievements. You must have belief otherwise there is no point starting out in the first place. Then as I have just mentioned you need to educate yourself and through that comes confidence. Once you have that then everything becomes effortless and there is no other outcome than success.

Mark Ford - Law Society Presentations 1994

Mark Ford – Law Society Presentation 1994

I have many personal achievements and that stems to having a never quit attitude to life.

Professionally I worked hard which culminated in gaining my credentials as a qualified lawyer within the legal system in the United Kingdom.

From there I have gone onto creating and developing multiple successful businesses both within the traditional economy and the digital economy that has exploded over the last 22 years.

I now feel privileged to give back through my positioning within an online business educational academy called the Digital Experts Academy where I have one on one coaching sessions with hundreds of high quality digital entrepreneurs to help steer them onto the right path for their own digital business success.

Personally, I have helped raise my son Daniel into a fine young man whom I am immensely proud of and would like to believe that other people see me as an honest, caring, thoughtful, hardworking and authentic person who more than often thinks more about other people than I do of myself. If I can then I will help anyone find their inner peace.

Personal Achievements – Why Stand Still When You Can Plan For The Future – Your Future?

Courtesy of Cartoon Studio

Just because you have many personal achievements already tucked away doesn’t mean you can get complacent. What happens in between the day you are born and the day you die is your legacy and your chance to make your own mark on the world. So I think it is pretty safe to say you are still alive because you are reading this article so what do you still want to achieve?

Here it is time for you to get pro-active and start setting some goals, so you can add to the list of your personal achievements. So what do you still want to do in your life?

First make a list with number one your priority and so on. Then you need to make a plan of action on how you are going to achieve them. What steps to you need to take to make everything a reality. It maybe that you need to learn some new skill sets both practically and mentally. One tip is not to look at the end result but to work back from this and break everything out into steps or mini goals.

look into the future

Look Into The Future

The reason I say this is because if you look at the whole picture from the outset then you will get overwhelmed, put pressure on yourself, be very self critical and eventually lose the will, not to live, but carry on and the chances are that you will give up which obviously achieves nothing.

By having a clear step by step plan which is broken down into mini-goals it will give you the best chance to succeed, there is no doubt. So when your list of personal achievements gets longer and longer what do you do? Well let’s dive into that shall we.

Personal Achievements – Make Sure That You Reward Yourself

Remember at the start of this article I said that we don’t recognise our personal achievements as much as we should well I am telling you that you need to reward yourself when your reach certain milestones.

I am not saying that you should go and shout it from the rooftops or brag about it, no way. What I am saying is that you can be subtle and give yourself little reward, so it gives you a sense of earning. It depends on the achievement as to what you should reward yourself with and if you reach your mini-goals then the size of the reward could be incremental as you go along the path to success.

So when you hit your first milestone maybe go out for dinner with your wife/husband or partner. Then increase the stature of the rewards accordingly as you see fit, it really is all up to you. The reason I say reward yourself is that it gives you that little shot in the arm to keep you motivated and it also breeds confidence in you overall. With added confidence you will have the ability to then set even bigger goals because you know within your heart that you can reach them.

You only have one shot at life, it is not a rehearsal and there is only one person who can make things happen and that obviously is you. This is your chance to become the best person you can and achieve as much as you want to achieve. There are no boundaries, and everything is there at your fingertips so make sure that you reach out and grab them with both hands and never let go and you will be as successful as you want to be.

I hope that you have taken great value from my take on personal achievements. I didn’t want it to be just me telling you to do this and do that, I wanted to get you thinking and empower you to act on many different fronts and I hope that I have succeeded in doing that. Please leave your comments below as I would love to hear from you on all your personal achievements up to now and what you have planned for the future. For now I wish you every success in everything that you do.

Self Development

Self Development – Understanding What Fear Is And How To Deal With It So That You Can Live Your Life To The Full

A self development article from home business lifestyle coach Mark Ford looking at fear and how it can hold someone back from living life to the full and also giving some advice on how to confront fear full in the face.

self development

Self Development

Self Development – Dealing With Fear

At some stage in a person’s life they will experience fear and I am sure that this is something that you can relate to, but it is important from a self development perspective to not push this aside but to address it as it something that can have a debilitating effect on your life. Now I understand that everyone is unique, and people handle things in different ways and some better than others and there can be many variant degrees of fear, but the experience is something that I would not wish on anyone and I wanted to write this article to offer as much help and advice as I possibly can.

Before I go on though I need to give a clear definition as to what fear is. Did you know that fear is a both a verb and a noun? As a noun it can be a very unpleasant emotion that is caused by the imminent threat of danger, pain or harm. A good example of this is if someone said, “I ducked down as a hail of bullets whooshed past”.

As a verb it relates to someone who is afraid of something or another person. It is likely to be harmful, painful or dangerous to them. An example of this would be if someone hated another person but did not fear them anymore.

So fear is a feeling which causes changes in metabolic and organ changes and stimulates the expectation or perception that something is going to happen which results in a severe risk to both body and life. Usually what happens is that the person develops a fight or flight response. Either they confront it or try to escape from it. In very extreme cases such as terror or horror it can lead to total freezing and paralysis.

facing your fear

Facing Your Fear

Also fear can be looked upon as a rational or irrational feeling. A rational feeling can be deemed as appropriate meaning that people have every right to thinking they are in a life-threatening scenario such as being stuck in a burning building or under water.

An irrational feeling is deemed to be a phobia such as being scared of spiders and the very common one of being afraid of heights. Although there are these classifications it doesn’t mean that one has a higher level of fear over the other, far from it. In each scenario the person is just as afraid because it is their experience and the threat to their body and life is right there in front of them.

Courtesy of Inside Edition

If we look at that awful day of September 11 2001. After the planes hit the twin towers the people below and above the impact zone would have experienced extreme horror. Many would have frozen with fear but then the fight in them would have come out, they knew they were in a life or death situation and would have tried to find a way out of the buildings, they did not know the buildings were about to collapse. Unfortunately some people knew that there was no way out and decided to jump because that was to them the best option, they confronted their fear and took action.

On the aeroplane that ultimately crashed in the field. The passengers onboard again would have experienced horror after the plane had been hijacked but then confronted that horror by trying to take back the control of the plane. They paid the ultimate sacrifice but saved potentially thousands of lives.

Courtesy of British Pathe

Look at the Titanic disaster. There are reports that the band kept playing as the ship went down and the captain stayed on the bridge. Were they doing it as a sense of duty or were they trying to escape their fears by not accepting what was happening. The people who managed to get in a lifeboat probably experienced horror twice. The first getting off the ship and seeing it sink and then not knowing if they were going to get rescued or die from hyperthermia. These two examples would be classified as rational fears so let’s look at an irrational example which still has severe consequences and that is the fear of heights.

Self Development – Fear of Heights

Although this is classed as a phobia it can be seen by the people who suffer from it as a life-threatening experience. There is a saying of don’t look down but if you are a long way above ground you can’t help saying it and then the feelings of losing control and fear kick in. Suddenly a feeling of dizziness and sickness may arise but in many cases the person is in a safe environment.

Look at the thousands of landmark tall buildings in the world that people go up when they are visiting a certain country. Many people decide to stay on terra firma because it is the safe option. However, they miss out on the experience of seeing wonderful vistas and views, they escape their fear by shying away from it.

empire state building

Empire State Building

A friend of mine, Pete Harris, recently went to New York and has had a life long fear of heights but he bought tickets to go up to the top of the Empire State Building.

Although he made that commitment of purchasing the tickets he still knew in his own mind that it didn’t mean he would actually do it. Even up to the point of walking in the building and to the elevator he was undecided, he was still trying to escape, but he confronted his fear and walked over the line. Eighty floors up he first witnessed the amazing Manhattan skyline from an internal observation deck.

Pete tells me that he could have stayed up there as he felt safe but he decided to go that extra 6 floors to walk out in the open air, well over 1000 feet above the streets of New York. He didn’t miss that experience and one which will stay with him for the rest of his life and now he has that feeling of accomplishment.

Mark Ford – Home Business Lifestyle Coach Seeing The Fear!

mark ford

Mark Ford

I am a home business lifestyle coach and I see fear in people in a different way. Something that is not life threatening or even a phobia. Starting a new business is daunting but many people are afraid in a different way. That is the fear of failure, not being able to do something or it is costing them a lot of money.

They may be unhappy with their current situation at work and either need or want a change, but it is that fear of failure that stops them committing.

They don’t look through that fear to see what life they could build, maybe it is the fear of the unknown?

Self Development – The Symptoms Of Fear

increased heart rate

Increased Heart Rate

So lets look at some of the common symptoms of fear.

The physiological signs are the acceleration of breathing rate or hyperventilating, the increase in your heart rate where you can feel your heart thumping in your chest and in your head.

Then you can have blushing which results from the constriction of blood vessels. Also muscles tend to tense up which also include the muscles that are attached to hair follicles which lead to your experiencing “goose bumps”.

People also start to sweat a lot and blood glucose levels increase which leads to hyperglycaemia. You suddenly can’t get to sleep at night as you are more alert, and you experience butterflies in the pit of your stomach. This is when fight or flight occurs, and you realise that you are feeling the emotion of fear.

Self Development – Treating Your Fears

In extreme cases it is advisable to seek professional help on your self development. However, there are things that you can try for yourself. There are many great books and online courses that will help you address your situation but simple things like controlling your breathing to calm yourself down, documenting the triggers that set off your fears so you can see a common denominator can help.

In other cases it may be doing what my friend did and just go for it to overcome what is holding you back.

If it’s related to starting your own business then you are more than welcome to contact me here to see how I can help you with all the experience I have and the tools and resources that I have access to and can introduce you to.

It is very important to realise that everybody is fearful of something, you are not in an exclusive club and there are many ways to address and hopefully overcome your fears. The first thing to do is commit to fighting your fear, once you have done that then you will find it easier to tackle it face on.

Self Development – Jim John – Secret to Self Control

Fighting your fear is an important element to self development and if I can be of any further help then please do not hesitate in contacting me here.

Famagusta Ghost Town

Mark Ford Visits Famagusta Ghost Town, Cyprus 10th June 2018 – A Real Eye Opener

As we move through the journey of life focusing on our next day, month, year it is so easy to be focused on what we want out of that period of time. Take time to think of others too and their lives.

Today, as I visited Famagusta Ghost Town, I was reminded how many Greek Cypriots we’re displaced following Turkey taking over Northern Cyprus back in 1974.

They had their peace and ‘time’ interrupted and the trauma they went through is inconceivable in having to relocate from North Cyprus to South Cyprus and vice versa.

It’s a reminder to live in peace each day because we never know when that will be disrupted. We all deal with life’s challenges. However, be there for others too and live a fulfilling life in doing so.

Famagusta Ghost Town, Cyprus

Famagusta Ghost Town, Cyprus

Today has been heart wrenching listening to Mr John, our tour guide, tell his story of his displacement from his home in Famagusta, Cyprus at fifteen years of age being driven out by the Turkish army.

We never know the full story or both sides so we don’t judge. However, to be in his company was very thought provoking, even emotional at times and more than a trip for tourists.

I visited with Greg Fiona Scott and we were all equally astounded at how it had all been left as it was since 1974. At least now the border is open to go across from the South to North. However, for governments to divide into two such a small island between a Turkish administration and Greek Cypriot administration is something many can’t seem to put words too. The Cyprus problem as they call it remains unresolved and a cease fire has ensued for 44 years it seems.

Having the freedom to travel by not being tied to a nine to five desk is great. However, by looking outside of ourself as we travel and enjoy the history we broaden our knowledge to share with the world what we see.

What we see is not always sun, sea and sand. We also see much more.

Please get in touch if you would like to learn what has made it possible for me to be free to travel more and broaden my horizons
