Target audience marketing is when you first define who you audience is and then deliver content to them relating to their interests and behaviours. This is critical to ensure that you get the most out of your content marketing strategies.

If you don’t do this, then all the time that you are creating great content it may not be reaching the right people, and your time and effort will be wasted.

In the past when it came to content marketing, people had the mindset that if you post great content on your blog then people would come to your site. The trouble is that you have no idea if people are going to engage with your content, buy your products or if they just randomly found your site on the internet.

What Is Your Product & Who Is It For? – You must look at your product and determine exactly what it does and what benefits does it offer.

Next is to identify who is the most likely to purchase your product. Is it a middle age man, a stay at home mum, affluent people who have lots of disposable income e.t.c. Once you have done these two steps you can then move onto the next step of this process.

Build A Customer Gravatar – To create great content that will get people to engage with it you need to know every detail about the person. You need to understand their demographics.

This means that you need to find out things like, household income, how many children, daily routines, shopping habits, where they hang out online and what publications they buy. When you have done this then you will have a picture in your mind, a gravatar of your ideal customer and you can create a conversation with them within your content. Speak to them as if you were speaking to a friend.

Research Through Social Media – Social media is where you will find most of your customers because they all have profiles on the major platforms. Now these platforms have great tools that you can use to find out the information you need.

Social media platforms have what are called insight tools. These tools will tell you things like gender, age, likes and dislikes, interests, hobbies work experience.

These insights are like gold dust because it helps you be very specific with your content.

So the three simple steps to defining your audience are to understand what your product does, who your product is for, and then to get every single detail of your perfect customer avatar.
